The conference is a joint initiative of the following institutions:

European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS)  was created by ministers of culture of Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Its purpose is to document and promote the study of 20th century history and how it is remembered. Our field of interest centre on times of dictatorial regimes, wars, and resistance to oppression. We support academic research, education projects, and promotional events through an international network of scholars and partner institutions. Network's activities contribute to building better relations between European societies through discussing our common past. 

Institute of History, Research Centre for the Humanities, Hungarian Academy of Sciences,is the leading institution of historical sciences in Hungary. Its primary task is basic research in connection with the history of the Hungarian state and Hungarian society, the publication of handbooks and synthetical works, journals (such as the Hungarian Historical Review),  the support and coordination of participation of Hungarian historians in international forums, and contributions to the shaping of public opinion in Hungary. 

Polish Institute in Budapest — one of the oldest Polish Institutes abroad and one of the oldest foreign institutes in Hungary — celebrated in 2009 the 70th anniversary of its foundation. Beautifully located on the high corner of Andrássy and Nagymező streets, with exhibition windows facing the "Budapest Broadway", it contributes to the vibrant cultural life of Budapest.

The conference will take place in Budapest (Hungary) between 23 and 26 October 2013, and will be hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
